Ingredients

1 cup Suji (Cream of Wheat)
2-3 tbsp oil
3 cups water
1tsp salt
¼ tsp ground chilli
1/2tsp ground ginger
2tsp lemon juice
¼ tsp sugar (optional)
1tsp cumin
1 tsp mustard
1tsp urad dal
pinch of asafetida
Few curry leaves
¼ cup finely chopped carrot
¼ cup finely chopped cabbage
¼ cup frozen peas
1 tomato finely chopped
¼ cup cilantro

METHOD:

Roast Suji for 4-5 mins on medium heat until color becomes pink. (set aside)

In another pan, heat oil. Add mustard seed and sauté until they start to pop.

Add urad dal and fry until it starts to turn pink.

Add asafetida, ginger, turmeric, curry leaves, salt, chilli, peas and carrots and cook for I minute.

After cooking for about ½ minute add tomatoes and let cook for another minute then add water.

Cover and let boil for about 30 seconds then add Suji, stirring continuously to avoid lumps.

When the water evaporates, add lemon juice. Stir well and cook on low heat for about 1- 2 minutes.

Sprinkle cilantro over Upma just before serving.
